Phoebe Allwell is an abstract artist whose practice explores relationality, presence and the subtle spaces where human experience unfolds.

For Allwell, painting is an experimental and intuitive, process-led inquiry. Through meditative and repetitive gestures, she allows the work to unfold in response to the materials, rather than directing them towards a predetermined outcome. This way of working has been shaped by a lifelong engagement with contemplative Eastern philosophies, where spaciousness, presence and simplicity have naturally found their way into the studio.

Allwell is interested in the relational space that opens between a painting and the person looking at it — the space where something personal and unknowable may emerge. Her work does not seek to prescribe what a painting should provide or how it should be experienced, but rather to leave room for the viewer’s own experience to unfold.
